1. Who we are
Kashef (“we”, “us”, “our”) provides a smart electricity-monitoring device and a companion mobile app for homes, shops, and small factories in Syria. This policy explains what data we collect when you use the Kashef app and device, why we collect it, and what rights you have over it.

2. What data we collect
2.1 Information you give us
- Name — optional display name you enter in your account.
- Email address — used to sign in and to receive verification and password-reset emails.
- Phone number — used to identify your account and for support contact.
- Physical address — the city and area where your device is installed. Used to apply the correct tariff and to plan installation.
- Precise location (optional) — if you choose to share it once during device setup, we store the GPS coordinates of where your device is installed so we can show it on a map and pre-fill your city. We never read your location in the background.
2.2 Information collected automatically
- User ID — an internal account identifier we assign to you.
- Device ID — identifiers from your phone and from your Kashef hardware, used to deliver your readings to the right account.
- Product interaction — which screens you open and which features you use, so we can improve the app.
- Crash data, performance data, other diagnostic data — when the app errors or runs slowly, we log the error along with non-personal context (battery level, network type, device model, OS version) so we can fix it. These reports are not linked to your name or email.
2.3 Energy readings from your device
Your Kashef hardware measures the electrical consumption at your premises and sends those readings to your account. The readings belong to you and are visible only to you and anyone you share your account with.
3. Why we use your data
- To run the app — sign in, deliver live readings, calculate your bill, send alerts you have asked for.
- To personalise the app — show your name and your premises on the home screen.
- To improve reliability — analyse crash and performance reports to fix bugs and speed up the app.
- To contact you — about account security (password reset, suspicious sign-in), service notices, and replies to your support requests.
We do not sell your data, share it with advertisers, or use it to track you across other apps or websites.
4. Who we share data with
We only share data with the service providers who help us run Kashef. These providers are bound to keep your data confidential and to use it only for the purposes we instruct.
- Sentry — receives anonymised crash and performance reports so we can debug issues.
- Email provider — sends verification codes, password-reset links, and important account emails on our behalf.
- Firebase Cloud Messaging — when push notifications are enabled, delivers the notification to your phone (the notification content itself stays with us).
We may also disclose data if required by law, to protect our rights, or to investigate fraud or security incidents.
5. How long we keep your data
- Account information — kept while your account is active.
- Energy readings — kept while your account is active so you can see your full history.
- Crash and performance reports — kept for up to 90 days, then deleted.
- Backup logs — kept for up to 30 days for disaster recovery.
When you delete your account, we erase your personal data within 30 days. Anonymous, aggregated statistics (for example, total consumption across all users in a city) may be retained.
6. Your rights
You can exercise the following rights at any time:
- Access and export — open the app, go to Settings → Data export, and download a copy of your readings as a PDF or CSV.
- Update — edit your name, address, and preferences from Settings → Account.
- Delete your account — open the app, go to Settings → Privacy → Delete account, and confirm. Your data is erased within 30 days, or use our account-deletion page.
- Withdraw permissions — turn off location, Bluetooth, or notifications from your phone’s system settings at any time. The app will keep working with reduced features.
- Ask us a question — email hello@kashef.sy and we will respond within 30 days.
7. Security
Your data is sent over HTTPS and stored on servers we control. Passwords are hashed (we never store them in plain text). Account access is protected by tokens that expire and refresh automatically. We restrict employee access to user data to those who need it to operate the service.
No system is perfectly secure. If we ever detect a breach that affects your data, we will notify you and the relevant authorities as required by law.
8. Children
Kashef is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under that age. If you believe a child has created an account, email us and we will delete it.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the product evolves. When we make material changes we will update the “last updated” date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify you inside the app. Continuing to use Kashef after a change means you accept the updated policy.
